Did you know that mayo is amazing for things other than your sandwich? The whipped eggs, vinegar, lemon juice, and spice concoction has a variety of household and other uses that will surprise you from killing head lice to removing water marks from your furniture.
Here are 17 of our non-traditional uses for mayonnaise:
Spread some mayo on a door hinge and open and close it a few times to work it in. This will stop it from squeaking.
Scratches in Wood
Dab some mayonnaise into any scratches or cracks in your wooden furniture. Let it stay for a few days before buffing it with a cloth. This will hide any scratches
Take a paper towel and put a few dollops of mayonnaise on it. Then press it into your watermark and let it sit for an hour before wiping it away. Once your stain is gone you can buff it with a clean cloth.
You can use mayo to polish and shine up your silver. Try doing a test on a small area of your silver first.
Fingerprints Off Stainless Steel
Spreading a thin coat of mayo onto stainless steel appliances and wiping it away will get rid of and prevent fingerprints.
Prevent a sticker from leaving a residue by spreading some mayonnaise onto the sticker and letting it sit for 15 minutes. This will help you to rub the sticker off without leaving the sticky stuff behind.
Dampen your hair and smooth it over with full-fat, organic or homemade mayonnaise. Place a plastic cap or some plastic wrap over it for an hour, then shampoo and rinse out your hair. Your hair will be amazingly soft and shiny.
Soak your fingers in a bowl of mayonnaise to moisten and condition your nails
Coat your head with mayo for 8 hours and cover with a shower cap to suffocate head lice.
Dab some mayo on a washcloth and rub it into the leaves of your houseplants to make them clean and shiny.
You can remove soft tree sap by putting a dollop of mayonnaise on it until it becomes soft enough to wipe away.
Crayon on Walls
Slather some mayo on your wall with crayon and let it sit for a half hour before wiping away with a damp cloth or sponge
Place a drop of mayonnaise onto areas with tar buildup and let it be for a few minutes or longer. When you wipe it away your tar will be gone.
Mix some of the condiment with sugar and gently rub it on your face to get rid of dead skin cells and hydrate your skin.
Cloudy Wood Finishes
Put some mayo on your cloudy wood finishes and keep it there overnight. When you wipe it away in the morning your stain will be gone.
Mayo will soothe your sunburn when you’re out of aloe.
Apply a thin layer of mayo on your piano keys and let it sit for 10 minutes before wiping it off. This will wipe away any dirt or gunk that’s built up on your piano keys.
Rub some mayo into your wooden furniture and buff it with a cloth. This will serve as a furniture polish.
Bubble Gum in Hair
Slather some mayo onto some gum that’s stuck in your hair and rinse it with some water while you pull it out.
If you have dry skin you can use some mayonnaise as a face mask and keep it on your face for 15 to 20 minutes to leave your face hydrated and soft.
